Terms of Service
The rules for using Abide, including accounts, community participation, user content, subscriptions, AI-assisted features, and licensed content.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Abide, including the Abide mobile application, websites, features, content, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By creating an account, accessing the Service, or using features that require acceptance of these Terms or our community rules, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to create or use an Abide account. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you may use Abide only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian where required by law. You may not use the Service if you are legally prohibited from doing so.
2. Your account
You agree to provide accurate account information, keep your credentials secure, and notify us if you believe your account has been compromised. You are responsible for activity through your account except where applicable law provides otherwise. You may not sell, transfer, impersonate, or misuse another person's account.
3. Abide's purpose
Abide provides tools for Bible reading, Scripture study, prayer, learning, reflection, creator content, and community participation. Abide does not guarantee that interpretations, study materials, community posts, public notes, AI-generated content, or other materials represent the views of every Christian denomination, church, ministry, publisher, or user.
4. User Content
“User Content” includes public Bible notes, prayer requests, community posts, comments, images, videos, audio, creator content, profile information, and other material you submit, upload, create, or publish. You retain ownership of User Content that you own.
By submitting User Content to the Service, you grant Abide a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, display, distribute, transmit, and otherwise process that content as reasonably necessary to operate, provide, moderate, secure, promote, and improve the Service. This license does not transfer ownership of your User Content to Abide.
When you delete your account or eligible User Content, this license ends for the deleted content except to the limited extent copies must temporarily remain in backups, the content must be retained for a legitimate legal or safety reason, or applicable law otherwise permits retention.
5. Public and private content
Abide may allow you to designate certain content as Private or Public. Private content is intended for your personal use, subject to the limited operational, security, and legal access described in our Privacy Policy. Public content may be displayed to other users and may appear in community feeds, profiles, Scripture discussions, or related features. You are responsible for checking the selected privacy setting before sharing sensitive information.
6. Community rules and user-generated content
Before posting or sharing User Content through community or creator features, you may be required to accept these Terms and/or applicable community rules. By publishing User Content, you agree that you will not post, upload, share, encourage, or facilitate content or conduct that:
- Harasses, threatens, bullies, stalks, or targets another person.
- Promotes hatred or unlawful discrimination.
- Contains unlawful, exploitative, or sexually abusive material.
- Exploits, sexualizes, grooms, or otherwise endangers minors.
- Encourages serious violence, fraud, or illegal activity.
- Impersonates another person, ministry, business, or organization.
- Discloses another person's private or personal information without permission.
- Contains spam, scams, malicious links, malware, or deceptive content.
- Infringes copyright, trademark, publicity, privacy, or other rights.
- Attempts to manipulate likes, engagement, rankings, reports, or other Service systems.
- Interferes with the security, integrity, or operation of Abide.
- Otherwise violates applicable law or creates a material safety risk.
7. Moderation, reporting, and blocking
Abide may use automated systems, human review, user reports, or other moderation methods to identify and respond to prohibited content or behavior. We may remove or restrict content, limit distribution, issue warnings, suspend features, suspend or terminate accounts, preserve evidence of serious abuse, or take other reasonable enforcement action.
Abide provides or may provide tools to report content or users and to block other users. Reports should be made in good faith. We may review reports and take action within a reasonable period based on severity, available evidence, and applicable law. We do not guarantee that every violation will be identified or removed immediately.
8. AI-assisted and automated features
Some Abide features may use artificial intelligence or automated systems to create study guides, summaries, recommendations, explanations, or other generated material. AI-generated content may be incomplete, inaccurate, or inappropriate for a particular situation and should not be treated as a substitute for qualified professional advice or authoritative religious guidance.
You are responsible for the information you choose to submit to AI-assisted features. Information handling for those features is described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Bible translations and third-party content
Bible translations, study resources, audio recordings, images, video, links, and other third-party materials may be protected by copyright, trademark, contract, or other rights. Access to such material does not transfer ownership to you. You may not reproduce, scrape, redistribute, sell, or commercially exploit third-party or licensed content except where permitted by law or the applicable rights holder.
10. Abide intellectual property
Except for User Content and third-party material, Abide and its software, branding, designs, logos, graphics, interfaces, features, and original content are owned by or licensed to Abide. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, reverse engineer, or commercially exploit protected portions of the Service except where expressly permitted by law.
11. Subscriptions and purchases
Abide may offer optional paid features, subscriptions, or purchases. Before a subscription purchase is completed, the applicable purchase screen will identify the subscription benefits, price, billing period, whether the subscription automatically renews, and other material offer terms. Where a free trial or introductory offer is available, the applicable duration and the price that applies afterward will be disclosed before purchase.
Auto-renewing subscriptions continue until canceled. Purchases made through Apple, Google, or another authorized app-store platform are billed and managed under that platform's payment terms. You can manage or cancel an app-store subscription through the subscription-management tools provided by the applicable platform. Cancellation generally stops future renewal but does not necessarily provide a refund for the current billing period; refund eligibility is determined by the applicable platform and law.
Deleting your Abide account does not automatically cancel an app-store subscription. If you have an active subscription, you should cancel it through the applicable app store before or when deleting your account to prevent future renewal. Where supported, Abide will provide an easy-to-find route to subscription management.
12. Acceptable use
You may not attempt unauthorized access to another account or system; probe, attack, or disrupt Abide infrastructure; bypass security controls; introduce malicious software; scrape the Service at an unreasonable or unauthorized scale; manipulate engagement systems; create accounts to evade enforcement; misuse APIs or backend services; or use the Service in violation of applicable law.
13. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how Abide collects, uses, shares, protects, retains, and deletes information. By using the Service, you acknowledge the data practices described there, subject to any consent or other legal basis required by applicable law.
14. Account deletion, suspension, and termination
You may stop using Abide at any time and may request permanent account deletion using the tools provided in the app or through our Delete Account page. Account deletion is intended to remove the account and associated data as described in the Privacy Policy, subject to limited lawful retention.
We may restrict, suspend, or terminate accounts or features that violate these Terms, create safety or security risks, abuse the Service, infringe others' rights, or where action is reasonably necessary to comply with law. Where appropriate, we may provide notice or a way to appeal an enforcement decision.
15. Service availability and changes
We work to keep Abide available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Features may change, be added, or be removed, and the Service may become temporarily unavailable because of maintenance, errors, network problems, third-party outages, security incidents, legal requirements, or updates.
16. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” Abide does not guarantee that the Service will always be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free; that every piece of content will be accurate; or that community or AI-generated content will meet your expectations. Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot legally be excluded.
17. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Abide and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or relating to use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability where such limitation is prohibited by law.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as Abide develops. If changes are material, we may provide notice through the Service, email, the website, or another reasonable method. Continued use of the Service after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.
19. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of , without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable consumer law requires otherwise.
